Sound Book:
Conejo en la Luna

Artist Statement - Sandra Gomez

For my senior project I am creating a children’s soundbook to address how it’s important to keep connected with culture and language, more specifically Mixteco, Spanish, and Korean, through a combination of art and technology.

To accomplish this I first bought some soundbooks to look inside of and then use to create over. By pasting and painting directly over the pages, the DIY nature of it gives it a childish element. Unfortunately I could not reuse the tech so I had to buy my own supplies (the Adafruit Audio FX) to solder, program and model after the existing soundboards.

Through the skills I’ve learned in previous classes, I’m confident that I can make this project come to life with some technical help from others. I have not reached my $60-80 estimated spending so far which is a huge win for me. For more details view my timeline!

Thank you for reading :]

Rabbit in the Moon

‘Conejo en la Luna’ means ‘rabbit in the moon’. I was inspired by multiple stories I read online but I added my own twist by highlighting friendship. Most of the stories that were similar had a single rabbit sacrifice itself for the gods but I decided that this message might be a little morbid. Instead I wanted to show how the little rabbits worked together, stayed together and got rewarded. The story does not have a lot of depth because of the limited amount of pages but I hope that it is enjoyable.  ( script link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GTJUj2QDboYaJm2qx-egGviPkIoDk8B26IfbrE7OVaI/edit?usp=sharing)
